Did you know there are more than 100,000 types of mold? These harmful fungi can be found indoors and outdoors and thrive in dimly lit damp areas. This means that the bathrooms, attics, and basements in your home are likely great atmospheres for fungi to grow in, especially if you live in a particularly damp region.
Being aware of the mold that may invade your house is the first step to fighting them. And while there are innumerable types of mold that can be found, there are two major types that can be present in your house.
-
· White Mold
White mold is the most common type of mold that is found in attics. Due to its appearance, people often confuse white mold with efflorescence, which is a build-up of salt from a source of water and isn’t nearly as harmful as white mold. White mold can be the cause of some health concerns, such as skin irritation, sinus, and general allergies.
-
· Black Mold
Also referred to as “toxic black mold”, this can be even more harmful than white mold. In addition to compromising the air quality of your house, it can make you and your family prone to respiratory issues, sinus, eye and skin irritation, and various other health concerns. If left untreated, it can further exacerbate these health concerns and take a toll on the structure of the house.
Irrespective of the type of mold in your house, it is crucial to have it eliminated as soon as possible. Therefore, if you notice any signs of mold anywhere in your house, call the relevant local authorities as soon as possible.
